Landline telephones will no longer be present in Italian streets and squares: for communicating with the rest of the world when the smartphone is out of power come solutions by GaraGeeks.

Phone booths, once an icon of Italian public communication, will be gradually removed and only those located in hospitals, barracks or prisons will remain because they still serve a social function. The Communications Guarantee Authority, after a public consultation that largely found all operators in agreement, has ruled that Tim is no longer obliged to guarantee public service, except in places where mobile network coverage does not reach.

The booths witnessed a time when cell phones were not yet so widespread: small glass and metal structures, often painted bright red, were landmarks in cities and towns, offering anyone in need a way to communicate with the rest of the world. Inside them was a solid, reliable landline telephone with a handset that drew users’ attention. Anyone who could insert a coin or phone card could enjoy a moment of connection with friends, relatives or colleagues, often with boyfriends miles and miles away.

How phone booths have been transformed

However, with the advent of cell phones and the digital age, the role of telephone booths gradually lost importance. The constant accessibility of smartphone communication has made these facilities obsolete, and over the years fewer and fewer people have used them. Many telephone booths have long since been removed from the streets, leaving only a nostalgic reminder of a time gone by.

Despite this, telephone booths continue to exist in some parts of the world, transformed into real works of art or adapted for different purposes. Some have been transformed into Wi-Fi access points or cell phone charging stations. Others have become libraries or art galleries, paying homage to their historic past and giving them a new life within communities.

How to solve the problem of low battery

Today, with the increasing popularity of smartphones and dependence on technology, one of the most common problems we face when away from home is charging mobile devices. Limited battery life can cause real stress when we are traveling or away from an outlet. “Low battery” anxiety can ruin the experience and limit activities.

How many times have we found ourselves desperately searching for an outlet in a crowded airport or coffee shop, hoping to find a way to charge our phone? Fortunately, in recent years, solutions have been developed to address this problem. For example, the spread of portable power banks that allow you to charge your cell phone wherever you are. To make life easier for many, there are also stationary solutions that can be deployed in public places, such as those designed and built by GaraGeeks.
